my preferred settings in maya (for now)

as my knowledge of modelling in maya progresses i come to first results regarding perferred settings, i’ll list things up here:

  • interface > switch open attribute editor, open tool settings and open layer editor to in ‘in a separate window’
  • selection > polygon selection> select faces with: whole face
  • undo > queue > infinite (requires that you throw a flushUndo every now and then)
  • modules > load on startup > turn off dynamics and paint effects, i don’t need them for now, i want to save startup time
  • display > heads up display > turn on polycount, current frame, framerate
  • view > camera settings > resolution gate: on

as soon as you start to animate, the following settings are helpful:

  • settings > time > 30 fps (it’s easier to convert this to 25 fps/ pal later on)
  • settings > timeline > playback speed: real-time (30 fps)

i’ll extend this list as soon as i found more.
