something i miss in maya: a feature like “view in viewport, but not in render“… this is a cool and easy accessible feature in 3ds max through the modifier stack. in maya i could enable this functionality by selecting the object not to render, going into the attributes editor > mental ray > flags > untick “derive from maya” > set visible to “no” (don’t forget to turn on mental ray as your rendering system). perhaps i’ll find a better way later on, but this does it for now: i have the object in my viewport, but not in the rendering. another way is to just put all subdiv proxies in a separate layer and turn its visibility to off before rendering them. luckily there are also render layers (right next to the display layers) where you can turn of the ability to render on and off. enough ways to find my own way of handling my scenes.
