1-2-3 opacity mapping with vray

there’s a very easy way to render an opacity map using an existing scene. take the following steps: go to the global switches of the vray renderer in the rendering settings, then click on override material, choose vraylightmtl and instance this one to the material editor. in this editor choose the open slot of color and put a vraydirt material in it – tweak the settings and you’re done by clicking on the render button. it’as as easy as 1-2-3, as a-b-c (hum the police song along with it)… isn’t it?

    of course nice tips :)
it is similar to rendering AO with std material and vray dirt on the diffuse

practically the same, true. but with this way you can easily switch to this by turning on/off the override materials, so you never have to distribute a material. it’s just a faster workflow :-)
