this has been discussed a thousand times before but i find this way quite interesting to do a simple football: in 3dsmax, start with a geosphere, icosa type with 3 segments. add the edit poly modifier, go to vertex mode and remove all middle vertices by hand (activate ‘ignore backfacing’ to prevent false selections) to have only 5 sided edges. detach all these in polygon mode and add a meshsmooth with quad output to all of them with 2-3 iterations (you could also re-attach all those elements), use a spherify modifier (100%) then add a face extrude modifier with an amount of about 1.0 and add another meshsmooth, this time the usual nurms mode. et voilĂ , the only missing thing would be some white and black material, the easy way is to distribute two material channels in the unmodified model and then easily throw a multilayered material on it. have fun virtually kicking this football.
